| the controversial subject of christians and cussing....
so yesterday i woke up with a thought, a revelation if you will. i am sure this is not new to some and maybe isn't to me either but nonetheless i shall share it.
cussing. is it right or wrong for christians? some say it is wrong. others it is right. those who says wrong quote verses like ephesians 4:29 about not unwholesome talk coming out of mouths. well, i woke up thinking about how those who say it is not wrong say this because cuss words are only bad because society has assigned them that "value." in 1 corthinthians 8 and in romans 14 paul addressed this idea but with idols, eating of food sacrificed to idols, etc. for paul there is only one God and therefore no food, even that offered to idols, was unclean. however, many had weak consciences and faith and could not understand this. so for paul, it was not worth it to eat meat and cause a brother, for whom Christ died, to be embolded to sin. he also says in romans 14 that if you are uncertain about something and do it, then it is sin, because anything done in faith is sin. so, what i am saying is it is the same way with cussing. society has assigned as bad, as the words not being good and even though we may know they are just words like everyone else, we still live in a society that views them as wrong and to use them would be incorrect. also, if you have no conviction from the Holy Spirit about these words and using them, but others do, you would be well advised to be careful and not cause another to stumble.
